I am Chad Bredahl and am the host /creator of Krotoflik. Growing up I never really knew what I wanted to officially be. I say officially because I had wished inventing was a degree but obviously that wasn't an option. I have studied programs such as computer science, mechanical engineering and industrial design. All of which I was perfectly capable of handling but just knew they were not something that would make me happy in the end. I like creating, designing, and sharing my ideas with others. I hope that I can inspire people to make their dreams a reality.
What got me into filmmaking?
Growing up where I live, a song on the radio is played once a year called "The Legend." Its about a dogman type creature that lives in Northern Michigan and is played around every Halloween. One day I created this elaborate story of how this Dogman could be made into a movie. I wrote down the plot, created basic dialog, drew out scenes and by the time I was done I told myself I was going to make this happen on a super low budget. So I talked to friends, got a Sony night vision camera off ebay and came to realize I needed to learn a lot before I was going to tackle this project. After hours and hours of watching tutorials, discovering "Film Riot" on YouTube, following forums and tons of research almost a year or more later, someone had made the Dogman movie. Kind of tragic, but I did go to the premier, met the actors, saw the director and talked to some people. Morel of the story? Learn by doing! Don't just sit there and watch video after video. Choose a video you like, and try to emulate it. That alone will teach you more than you could imagine.
Why Krotoflik?
So what caused me to start Krotoflik? Well what better way to learn than to create and share with others. Not only does it benefit me by getting me out and filming but it allows me to create the gear that I wan't for all the shots that I need. Which in turn allows me to share this with all of you. Plus I love the challenge of designing my own gear with the requirements of being cheap yet easy to build. I hope for Krotoflik to continue growing as it creates excellent motivation for me to continue shooting and sharing. Thanks for following me on my journey!
